This project was undertaken by the Warwickshire Historic Environment Record (HER) and involved the creation of an historical comic aimed at Key Stage Two children.  The theme of the comic was the story of the Gunpowder Plot and its link to Warwickshire (specifically Dunchurch).  Children from Dunchurch Boughton C. of E. Junior School helped with the storyline of the comic and designed the front cover.

To complement the comic, Warwickshire Museum worked with pupils from the School to create an accompanying exhibition.  Pupils were invited to the Museum to attend a ‘curator' workshop, which involved visiting the Archaeology Gallery with the Keeper of Archaeology, before creating their own exhibition with artefacts contemporary with the Gunpowder Plot, not usually on display in the museum.

The exhibition was housed in Dunchurch library and included two supporting storytelling sessions.

For many children this was the first visit they had made to Warwickshire Museum.  Similarly many participants were not aware of the Historic Environment Record before this project.  All the participants had fun and learnt something new along the way, including the project team who were able to innovatively use their collections, expertise and facilities.  This project really did bring ‘history alive' for everyone.
