Source Number  

1 During gardening at a house in Tiddington Road various bits of pottery and a possible causeway (MWA9208) about 0.6m down were found. One almost complete pot was found and in addition the house owner had a box full of odd pieces, including some Samian ware. She had no coins, although three have turned up in the next garden (MWA1069).
2 The source for
1 gave rise to two records, one for the pottery finds above, and one for a causeway. Both had the MWA no 1068. The causeway record has been changed to MWA 9208.

The Roman period comes after the Iron Age and before the Saxon period.

The Roman period in Britain began in 43 AD when a Roman commander called Aulus Plautius invaded the south coast, near Kent. There were a series of skirmishes with the native Britons, who were defeated. In the months that followed, more Roman troops arrived and slowly moved westwards and northwards.
