1 A watching brief was carried out when a weir at the eastern end of the channel was demolished in February 2012. In the course of the works the weir was dammed, causing the water level in the sluice channel to fall. The natural gravel bed of the channel was apparent, and it appeared that the channel had never been lined. The channel first appears on the 1st edition OS map of 1887, but is not shown on the Baginton Tithe Map of 1841, either because it had not been constructed at that date or because it lay, at that time, in the adjoining parish of Stivichall.
