3 Dolphin Inn, Long Street, Atherstone. Historic Inn recorded on Pigot's, F. White and Co.'s, and Victuallers' databases, the latter shows it in existence in 1806. Buildings to rear. Situated on the north side of Long Street within the medieval settlement area.
4 The current façade of the Dolphin Inn dates to the 18th century but it is unknown how long an Inn has stood on this site. [Details of landlords betweeen 1828/9 and 1912]. In 1888 Atherstone was mapped at a scale of 1:500 by the OS. This map suggest that the earliest part of the Dolphin Inn ran for some 10m back from the street frontage but had been extended another 5m back by 1888. A pump is indicated in the yard to the east of the Building. Running back from the Inn are a series of additional structurew, some of which may have belonged to the Inn itself and others would have been dwellings for those families recorded on the 19th century records within Dolphin yard.

Description
period Medieval 1066 AD to 1539 AD (the 11th century AD to the 16th century AD)

The medieval period comes after the Saxon period and before the post medieval period.

The Medieval period begins in 1066 AD.
This was the year that the Normans, led by William the Conqueror (1066 – 1087), invaded England and defeated Harold Godwinson at the Battle of Hastings in East Sussex.
The Medieval period includes the first half of the Tudor period (1485 – 1603 AD), when the Tudor family reigned in England and eventually in Scotland too.

The end of the Medieval period is marked by Henry VIII’s (1509 – 1547) order for the Dissolution of the Monasteries in the years running up to 1539 AD. The whole of this period is sometimes called the Middle Ages.
