1 The settlement is not mentioned in Domesday when it is believed it was part of the parish of Preston Bagot. Market granted by Empress Maud (ie queen Matilda) to Thurstan de Montfort in 1140. In 1227 Peter de Montfort obtained a grant of a Monday Market and yearly fair.
