Source Number  

1 Finds made with a metal detector included a Roman coin of Carausius (?) Antoninianus (late 3rd century).
2 Further finds made included a head fragment of a dolphin brooch, a buckle or strap end of possible Roman date and two probable 3rd/4th century Roman coins which are impossible to identify.
3 Further finds made included four Roman coins (Faustina II, Magnentius, Valens and unidentified), and parts of horse harness - possibly Roman.
4 Drawing of possible horse harness fitting.
5 A Roman coin of Decentius found in 1986 at SP10505275.

The Roman period comes after the Iron Age and before the Saxon period.

The Roman period in Britain began in 43 AD when a Roman commander called Aulus Plautius invaded the south coast, near Kent. There were a series of skirmishes with the native Britons, who were defeated. In the months that followed, more Roman troops arrived and slowly moved westwards and northwards.
