Source Number

1 The line the possible Roman road is reported as surviving continuously for about 6km in the present (1985) road between Wootton Wawen and Ullenhall, and intermittently thereafter in minor roads through Tamworth and Wythall. This line eventually makes a junction with the Roman Ryknild Street in the Kings Norton district of SW Birmingham. In the opposite direction it is reported that the route of the possible Roman road is more difficult to establish with any certainty. The A34 may follow it more or less in its entirety between Wootton Wawen (E of the River Alne) and the Avon crossing at Stratford. However, the true course is reported as probably being on a far less well preserved line a little to the East of the A34, passing through Bearley and Clopton. This head twoards the Roman "small town" at Tiddington.
2 Archaeological observation of the laying of a new trunk water main from Wootton Wawen to Hunger Hill, Henley-in-Arden, recorded no evidence for the Roman road which the current road is known to have followed.

Description
period Roman About 43 AD to 409 AD (the 1st century AD to the 5th century AD)

The Roman period comes after the Iron Age and before the Saxon period.

The Roman period in Britain began in 43 AD when a Roman commander called Aulus Plautius invaded the south coast, near Kent. There were a series of skirmishes with the native Britons, who were defeated. In the months that followed, more Roman troops arrived and slowly moved westwards and northwards.
