Source Number  

1 Mesolithic flint scatter located. Finds include 294 scrapers, 285 microliths, 26 microburins, 58 burins, numerous flakes, pot boilers, cores etc.
2 Assemblage is typically late Mesolithic (7th millennium B.C.), with some evidence of old stone tool re-use during the Mesolithic, implying long-term activity on the site.
3 Possible Mesolithic assemblage listed centred on SP251909.
4 Location of flint scatter shown on Fig 1 Location Plan.

Mesolithic means 'Middle Stone Age'. It is the period that comes between the Palaeolithic (Old Stone Age) and the Neolithic (New Stone Age).

The Mesolithic period is a period of transition from the way people were living during the Palaeolithic period as hunter-gatherers to the development of farming in the Neolithic period.
