Shortly after the declaration of war in 1939, a network of defences was hastily built across Rugby in anticipation of a German invasion. Sited at road junctions, canals and other strategic points, many of them remain as both a permanent monument and a silent tribute to the courage and tenacity of the residents of Rugby during the war years.
