Perhaps the most visible and familiar anti-invasion remains (Lowry 1996, 79), pillboxes were often strategically positioned to cover a vulnerable point in a defensive position. There are two remaining pillboxes in the Rugby area. One is located on the Oxford Canal at Butlers Leap, Clifton upon Dunsmore (Warwickshire Historic Environment Record No. 8762). The other, pictured below, is more unique, being associated with the former World War Two airfield near Long Lawford and situated on Lawford Heath Lane (HER MWA 3489).
